  • It's pretty frustrating hearing people defend increasingly egregious practices with "If you complain or don't keep buying, the developers will lose their jobs". Activision-Blizzard shows they can lose their jobs even when the games are doing good. The consumers shouldn't have to quietly take it as some sort of hope they can appease a giant that clearly doesn't care what they do.

    Da KatDa Kat10 päivää sitten
  • I'm not an expert on live events nor online events but, surely the expertise of some of the people involved would have been transferrable? losing a job because the titles don't match even if they would be doing something similar?

    Da KatDa Kat10 päivää sitten
  • There needs to be someone who can buffer between extremely broad "the numbers don't match, reallocate" and the teams. Cutting someone off mid meeting and leaving people wondering what happened surely isn't going to be beneficial for productivity. If they need any project those people were arbitrarily cut from, it will suffer because they didn't have time to clean up what they were working on.

    Da KatDa Kat10 päivää sitten
  • I'm fucking fine with the ceo making money doing nothing but point fingers and be the person you can complain to. But for fuck sake, there is no reason they earn literally a 9000% salary doing nothing.

  • Can somebody enlighten me how its more cost effective to lay people off, then have to retrain and rehire those same roles back? Wouldnt it be better to invest and put those people to work on a future project? Its like they just keep resetting the game with new players rather than leveling up their current staff. Then are confused why they cant reach endgame?

  • The employees fully deserve what they get. Every freakin year it's the same bull. They lay off hardworking and underpaid employees knowing full well there is a long line of greedy newbies willing to take their place. These newbies are all too happy to take the jobs of those who are fired and the following year they get fired as well. Why don't they all leave and get a better-paying job in retail? The fact they all know Activision is going to treat them like dirt and continuously put their heads in the grinder for nothing is beyond stupidity. Get a better job or work at a more reputable studio and quit stealing the jobs of your colleagues. If Activision has no people willing to work for them they will start treating employees better. It's their own actions that allow this to continue.

Also, they should do a hostile takeover of Activision-Blizzard in the future, and completely wipe out the board of directors of the company.

A fucking wild cat strike of hundreds of employees would send a message to to the upper management "you can't fuck around with us like this, we're tired of being treated like we are disposable, give us better pay too", do they do it no, why should I care about this when they won't even man up and fight back

If you get fired while forming a union, you will fucking OWN that company by the end of the year. B) Go the fuck on strike when this shit happens. But they haven't, so this shit is going to keep happening. You can only villainize the companies so much before realizing their empoyees are just rolling over and letting that shit happen. Yes, the company heads are evil greedy shits. But there are legal tools in place to battle this shit. The employees just aren't utilizing them.

    • I need to point out Kotick has made so much money, he, his children, and their descendants can live in riches for the rest of their life without ever having to work. Getting fired would be a slap in the wrist. For Bobby Kotick, I want a punishment far FAR worse. First of all, I don't want him to die. That's kind mean, and it doesn't really solve anything to begin with. No, no, no. What I want is for him to suffer a very humiliating event where he loses his entire fortune, and has to work for his bread till the sweat from his body runs like a river. Something like straight out of fiction. .........sadly, this is no fiction, and what will probably happen is Kotick will retire at some point having made an insulting amount of money that will add to the ever increasing inflation plaguing our world.

    • Sadly, the world of video game developing is an INCREDIBLY harsh environment and *this* is coming from indie developers who are self or crowd-funded and are already making a decent living on their own. The developers who have to rely on publishers have it much worse. Finding a decent paying job in a good company is very hard, and add to that for a lot of these developers it was their dream as kids to work one day for what used to be their favorite companies.

      BlahanderBlahander19 päivää sitten
  • I know people need jobs but intead of going to work there contact old employees and start an indie already backing 10 indie games...srsly. .get some balls and lets see how far they will go... They'll stay online, that way the people on stage can't be heckled by the angry audience because of all the bullshit going on behind the scenes or because of bullshit announcements, or be interrupted, and just ignore any negative feedback during the stream. Suppressing their target audience and forcing their way upon them, I'm getting Orwellian vibes here.

  • I'm gonna play devil's advocate here. Just because they are hiring 3000 people, doesn't mean they can use any of the 190 fired people for these positions. Some of the fired people were apparently working on live events. If the newly hired people are coders for instance, you can't just put the event organizing people to work there. (Or you are effectively saying "Learn to code" to them) And yeah it sucks that the ceo is raking in millions while they are firing people, but are companies actually supposed to just keep the people on staff, pay them and not have them do any work? That's peak socialism right there. I know everybody loves to shit on activision, I do too, but get your heads out of your asses.

The department was not viable for what they needed to do, otherwise they would have kept them. You don't just move money to areas that are going to cost you money, whether directly or through opportunity cost, you work to make the most money for yourself and shareholders. Thats the whole point.

  • At this point even before UBI kicks in half of Acrivisiom Blizzard employees might plan to simultaneously quit. Blizzard would sue, except 1) the employees will get ample resources through gofundme and 2) there will a public outrage. At this point companies that deal in essential goods such as construction, electronics or chemistry must be laughing at videogames companies for wasting billions of dollars they could have invested. I'm telling you: the more advanced society becomes, the easier it'll be to make and publish games. This will backfire on Activision Blizzard, eventually.
