Nintendo game sells a huge 8.32 million copies in 6 months. Nintendo: "Well we can't have that." .
People acting like this invalidates the complaining of microtransactions, everyone who actually had these games didn't like it, just because it sold doesn't mean they should sell it, they're training people to buy shit and ask for more
Nintendo we don't want your money
You know some ding dong salaryman said, "scarcity" and everyone nodded enthusiastically, then stopped. They all looked at the CEO who, knowing all eyes were on him, nodded emphatically. Salaryman gets promotion and now they'll trot out all the hits for Switch this way. Capitalism!
Yeah, kind of sucks to hear this, I actually planned to get the game later.
Keep consuming sheeple.
Physical production stops eventually for all games, isn't this just Nintendo being up front about it? Although production probs normally lasts a few years, not just one...
Shitty as this decision was, it wasn't exactly a secret. Nintendo announced that it would be on the eShop for a limited time, and it was even stated in the game's store description. Still a dipshit move by a dipshit company who continues to be blind to the desires of its paying consumer base.
I mean there's still a demand for Gamecube games to be ported, instead of 'how about a sixth bundle of SNES games?'
If they didn't say that it was a limited supply, it probably wouldn't have sold as much as it did considering it's just 3 games on a emulator. Nintendo is known for its questionable and annoying business practices but I cant help but laugh on how well they pull it off
I'd be pissed to work at Nintendo designing games and have them be like "Yeah we only releasing this for 6 months" I love Nintendo but lately they have been so dumb, they have the best selling system and just totally taking it for granted and messing with their fan base.
One word:emulador Love Nintendo but Fuck you Nintendo
Disney did the same thing with thier ip. They creat a sense of scarcity which causes the consumer to panic buy. I love those games and for me sure i would love it for the nostalgia factor but honestly i probably wont play them. If anything im waiting for a Metroid prime collection now that is something.
They wanted people to panic and buy it fast so they would get cash fast , that's it
Nintendo without zelda and mario is nothing, they wouldn't stand a chance against the other console's
If a company stops selling a given piece of media, their copyright on it is moot until they make it available IMHO. If you cannot buy a game new, including the hardware to play it, then pirating is no less morally permissible than purchasing a used physical copy.
Not only FOMO, but also a continued perception into the future that Nintendo products are collectable, and limited. If they make their money in a short time, and create this perception for future similar products they see it as a win.
I just got a switch and was gonna get BOTW first but had to get All stars before its hard to get.
The fact is that the game isn't exactly a port. It's basically the original games, run through emulation.
Remember when they killed Metroid Prime Trilogy after like 6 months? Yeah....
It's a sad year, PS store closing while killing off so many games and Nintendo axing good mario games for sake of fomo...
God damn it Nintendo! *IWATA IS TURNING IN HIS GRAVE!!!* It's obviously Nintendo's new administrative additions causing this shit. They're not old school, so they don't care about the reputation of the company, only money.
Nintendo does make good games but it's really bad when they make stupid decisions like this one
Boycott Nintendo and use emulation and piracy. It's the moral decision if you love video games.
Not sure how you guys don't understand this decision, it's pretty simple, just like when taco bell or any fast food place releases limited time foods, they do it so people jump on it b4 it's gone as if it won't come back yet it always does, it's literally the same scam we've seen all the time from other companies, they are doing this to up sales then after a year they will bring it back and do the same thing, it's just a video game version of the McDonald's Mcrib, don't fall for it
Like they said they’d do it but I didn’t think they had the balls
Why were you surprised? This was always the plan
Whoever supports Nintendo doing this bullshit support anti-consumer tactics from companies. This is bullshit.
Say what you will about Nintendo, but they stick to their words
Refused to buy it due to this plan of artificial scarcity, I won't accept being slapped in the face and being told to like it, I can emulate ALL of these just fine on PC
Its like this guy has no clue and just cherry picks stories or jumps on shit he is out of the loop of. He also thinks he knows better when he simply just doesnt have the insider information that they do. Dumb.
Nintendo snuffs out a fan-made Mario Battle Royale, releases an inferior product, and proceeds to pull the plug on their own knockoff. That’s not even next level stupid, that’s a damn backwards warp pipe.
One thing I can tell you is that THIS kind of slimy (albeit confusing) business tactic definitely wouldn't have happened if the late Satoru Iwata is still in-charge of Nintendo. I love Nintendo with all my heart but this is just bullsh*t you know.
i think nintendo ate the wrong mushrooms....
So... Nintendo releases a limited edition product, tells you, from the get go, that it is limited edition and then proceeds to limit it, and people are upset about it? Also, please stop expecting streaming services and digital game distributors to keep their current lineup of products forever. Buy physical or sail the high seas, it clearly doesn't matter to these people.
It's actually just away for them to create artificial scarcity it boosts sales of the game a shady business move but a good one for profit.
Nintendo after March 31th: /watch?v=D7tJELpDfKU Why do I hear boss music?
I wonder if they’re going to repackage them as individual games.. Get the hype of these games up, get all the sales from the first six months, and then take the bundle down and sell each of the three for $60 each. $60 VS $180
The reason sales are so well is because its only available for limited time. Disney does the same thing with their iconic movies. It keeps a demand. Its actually very smart.
The switch already feels dead. Unlike the 3DS, the switch has pretty much one big title for every franchise, most of which were on the Wii U. Also the lack of virtual console is the worst decision Nintendo could’ve made.
Nintendo: Were only having a limited supply. Consumers: Okay Nintendo: *pulls game* People. :O
You know, sometimes I wake up at night and wonder why I bought Switch.
thank god I pre-order an Aya Neo so I'll get to emulate all of them+steam
Well ill be playing them for free on PC
This anti-consumer practice has been going on for many many years simply called artificial scarcity
i dont even want to purchase a switch until the i see how the new pokemon games in 2022 turn out and i wont be able to pick this up anymore wtf?
So Sony and Nintendo going hand in hand to piss of their customers. Good for Microsoft and bad for those two companies but the fanatics will ben defend this.
Microsoft is still scummy to other developers such as Inti Creates for example, which were making a port of Gal Gun Returns for the Xbox One and while it was completed, Microsoft refused to have the game on their platform, and thus the Xbox One port was canceled.
why are they killing it off, well they probably saw how well it was doing so they kill it off and rerelease each as a separate game
Nintendo doing the Gacha trick, and ppl fell for it like the idiots they are.
They did say before it launched that it would be a timed marketed run. I don't understand why people are upset about it when we literally knew from the start.
Just because they announced it from the start doesn't mean that we have to like it or that that we should think that it's a good idea
I’m more baffled that it’s the limited release people are complaining about instead of how overpriced it was. $60 for 3 passable ports. The original releases are still the better versions, yet they were charging a premium for it.
$20 a game?
It's not baffling at all, it was very clear from the start the reason why they where doing this, it was to create scarcity so people will rush to buy it driving up sales in a short time it's basically playing on peoples fear of missing out. This obviously not being a consumer friendly tactic the right response should have been to not buy into this bullshit, not sure why consumer think companies will change there ways when they are still funding them.
I disagree with the call, but... They made clear that this wasn't a permanent item. Not defending Nintendo on this at all, but come on... there was a limit on its lifespan in the store. And I've seen some physical copies out there.
Sony and Nintendo are being fucking whack these last few weeks. What the hell is going on?
***It's NOT baffling. People had 6 months to buy it from Nintendo, now they can buy it from eBay for BELOW retail. Stop crying for NO REASON.***
If you're late emulate the game instead of running to scalpers. Nintendo fully decided to make their game inaccessible after a certain date god knows why, you should have the right to play the game by other means which don't involve giving them money
Not to mention, the game's original ROMs play better.
This is why we sail the 7 seas and live a pirates life
Helps the wallet a lot too
I mean, they said it was going to be 6 months? Why is everyone acting like this is big news and losing their minds? Why was Unus Anus axed, cause the creators said the channel would be deleted at a certain date and stayed true to their word though it was massively successful. They told you upfront and they are staying true to their word, nothing to lose your minds over.
Just because they announced it from the start, doesn't mean that we have to like it or that that we should think that it's a good idea.
I got my copy awhile back
Why are ppl baffled? Nitendo bet on fomo driving sales which seemingly it did and now they do what they said, removing the games. Stop enabling nitendo to do this shit lol.
Im scared for zelda anniversary
This is why I hate Nintendo lmao
So 2nd hand physical copies will sky rocket in price. Even selling switches with digital versions already downloaded. Nice. Can't wait to never get this game now.
Homebrew store on switch will always have it so its not a loss to me
its not just for FOMO, its so they can sell the game at full price. Instead of selling the game at full price so people who can afford to pay full price will get the game early, and people with less money will wait for the sale, they just take the game away so no one can have it and people with less money will have to choose not to get other games and pay full price next time the game is availible again. Nintendo is super fucking grimey im boycotting them.
I gotta be honest. I did buy a second unopened copy of this game. Lol
Nintendo’s taking out a page from Disney Remember Disney movies for a limited time if you don’t buy it goes back in the vault!!!! Hahahahahahh
Ill buy a game before a switch.. if ever
And that's why I bought the physical version.
Good thing its easily piratable then, cf. Jim Stirling's it's morally acceptable to pirate Nintendo vid, they keep pulling such BS
Why are they baffled? They said they were going to do it...
Just because they announced it from the start, doesn't mean that we have to like it or that that we should think that it's a good idea.
The time gate is probably because they plan to make full remakes of those titles.
Nintendo has so much money why would they care?
This is just me throwing out there. But the game itself, based on the people who looked into the game and it's build, is not very well optimized. No game breaking bugs or glitches and all but they're still there. Someone also said it's apparently running on an emulator rather than a straight port. Due to the pandemic, Nintendo was in need of releasing something to fill in the gaps after animal crossing new horizons. I have a feeling that Nintendo really want to remaster the collection but for whatever reason, pandemic or time constraints they decided to release a half-assed mario collection. And because it's half assed, they're only available for a limited time and later, plan will revisit the game to remaster it properly and release it once the pandemic is over. After writing all of this, I'm aware that this just look like a complete waste of time and resources just for this to be the case.
Did people really think they wouldn't do it. Not saying it was a good thing, but when Nintendo says they want too do something they'll usually do it
*Pirating = Unlimited Glitch*
Nintendon't at it again 👏
I'm glad I moved on from Nintendo's bullshit ever since the Wii came out.
To anyone still surprised, Nintendo is literally no better than the other scummy companies. They just hide it better.
the game is emulated trash anyways
If only Nintendo could just keep these games another way on the eShop.
When they announced it they said as much. They kept their word. Also, you act like the sales weren't affected by this limited time frame. Sales were definitely high because people knew it wasn't going to be available forever.
HAHAHAHAHA APRIL FOOLS GUYS I KNOW ITS APRIL 1ST TODAY ITS AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE AAAAAA
hope I dont lose my physical copy or the cartridge gets damaged hmmm maybe this was one time to actually go digital for this one. Oh well.
WHAT DID YOU ACTUALLY EXPECT THEY SAID THEY WERE DELISTING THE GAME AND THEY DID ON THE DATE THEY SAID. YOU HAD 6 MONTHS TO BUY THE GAME!! IF YOU REALLY WANTED THE GAME YOU WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT ALREADY....
First of all, calm down. I mean, Jesus. Second, just because they announced it from the start, doesn't mean that we have to like it or that that we should think that it's a good idea. And third, you do realize that we're currently living in a deadly global pandemic (COVID-19) and because many people have lost jobs due to COVID-19, people are struggling to pay their bills, taxes, etc.
Wait....isn't the next day april fools?
I have FOAPP: Fear Of Being a Pay Pig. Here's all my middle fingers, Nintendo.
Tis the time. Goodbye Mario
It's not about money it's about sending a message
Kreeist.....would somebody please tell this guy how the hell to pronounce “Feb-RU-ary”??? He always bungles the simplest words.
Nintendo kinda stuck in the past tbh
April Fools Day!! Nah, Mario is retiring.
Nintendo feeding the fomo fever. Torrenting it now.
Maybe they are planning to launch a N64 classic in the near future? Mario 64 would be required for that console. Maybe they are trying to keep a market for that?
You had 6 months ... and Nintendo let it be known why are people bitching smh
could it be they want to sell an updated ver on the switch pro?
Nintendo's got its fans by the balls. I wouldn't be surprised if they keep re-releasing old games and then putting them back in the vault
Fans: Is this an early Apr... wait... Is this an April Fools joke?
*Watches video* *Checks calendar* "Ooooooh sh...!"
This video: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Perhaps Nintendo is simply weaponizing controversy. Whether they continue to sell 3D All-Stars or not, they managed to get everyone’s attention on them and Mario for about 6 months. That’s free publicity most companies would kill for. I can see Doug Bowser’s statement now, “we at Nintendo wished to engage the Mario fanbase with this limited time release...why are you mad?”
I bought a physical copy so doesn’t affect me
they want to be like Disney lol you know the vault that has all the good old movies that they dont want you watching. in this case playing lol dam shame
They did say it would be gone by March, I don’t see how people would be baffled. And it’s not really best selling if most of those sales are probably from FOMO or for resale purposes.
